About Ecuador
Ecuador or the Ecuadorian Republic, officially the Republic of Ecuador, is a sovereign and multinational country, located in the northwestern region of South America. Its capital is Quito. It is a member of the Andean Community and is organized into twenty-four provinces. It limits to the north with Colombia, to the south and east with Peru and to the west with the Pacific Ocean, which separates it from the Colón archipelago or Galapagos Islands by approximately one thousand kilometers from the continental coast, between the Santa Elena peninsula and the island of San Cristobal. It also limits with Costa Rica by the maritime border of the insular region. The equinoctial line or parallel 0° crosses the country and divides the continental and insular territories in two, thus leaving most of the Ecuadorian territory in the southern hemisphere.

The white-breasted toucan is a South American member of the Ramphastidae family, widely distributed throughout the Amazon and the Andes, in southeastern Colombia, southern Venezuela, eastern Ecuador Yasuní National Park, in Brazil, Guyana, Suriname and eastern Ecuador. Peru, which is the place with the highest presence of toucans, mostly of this species, but also in the Bolivian Amazon.

Based on a model of deforestation in the Amazon basin, and habitat loss elsewhere within its extensive range, it is suspected that the population of this newly-lumped species is declining moderately rapidly
over three generations, and it has therefore been classified as Near Threatened.
Habitat and Ecology
This species is found in a variety of habitats, including lowland forest, secondary habitats, clearings, swamps, and plantations. It usually occurs above 1,000 m, descending to 400 m. It tends to feed mainly on fruits, to the point that it is an important disperser of some species of fruit trees. Fruits from palm trees, flowers, arthropods and small vertebrates are also part of their diet in their diet. Reproduction is between September and July in all areas, with the nest made in a cavity 5 to 15 m above the ground (del Hoyo et al. 2002).
